Maintenance Worker
The Monument is located in Keene, CA approximately 30 miles from Bakersfield, CA and 12 miles from Tehachapi. This is truly a four seasons location just about two and a half hours from the Pacific Ocean, as well as the Los Angeles area. The position will work at Cesar E. Chavez National Monument in Keene, California. The position will maintain the visitor center area and the Chavez home on a daily basis to the highest standards. Other tasks include janitorial and facility maintenance throughout the monument. One outstanding feature of the monument is the cultural landscape, which needs daily attention and maintenance, including mowing, trimming and other general landscaping work. Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in the Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the job elements listed below to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT):
Must have experience in the following duties:
performed cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms and facilities using a variety of cleaning materials and tools involving cleaning of toilets, sinks, floors, walls, and insuring that there are adequate supplies of soap, towels, and toilet paper for a public restroom without more than normal supervision. Experience inspecting, maintaining and replacing light bulbs in a variety of indoor and outdoor fixtures. Have performed general landscaping and grounds maintenance such as cutting grass with push/riding mowers, weed eaters and pruners. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair etc. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring instruments. Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Knowledge of materials.
